DAY 335: The Countdown Begins!

Jake turned 11 months old today! What does that mean? Only one month left until I can take these posts dating back to day one and create ‘Jake 365’! (See: Who is 1FD?) Who would have thought that a simple bet would have led me to this point?

The little man celebrated by sprouting another toofer! That makes four on top, and four on the bottom. He’s getting so big! He’s already into his 12 month jammies, and he just looks huge in Mama’s arms.

Look at the little half-pint 11 months ago.

He used those chompers to eat peas all by himself! Pinching them up off his tray and sticking them half way down his throat. I know this all seems insignificant. But each one of his firsts amaze me. I’ll see you next month for his first…BIRTHDAY!

DAY 334: WORK THAT BOOTY!

MADE YA LOOK!!!

Jake has invented yet ANOTHER game to keep himself entertained! I call it the “360* Booty Scoot”. Basically he sits on the slippery wood floor in his fuzzy jammies and scoots around in a circle like he’s on an imaginary Sit-N-Spin. It’s all fun and games until he barfs. I have no pics or video. In lieu of such, I thought you’d enjoy a nice PHAT AZZ. Who doesn’t:)

DAY 333: It Puts the Lotion in the Basket!

PUT THE F*@KING LOTION IN THE BASKET!
Jake is really starting to dig the game of “put a bunch of miscellaneous crap in something, dump it out, and then put it back in again”. It could be golf balls in a cottage cheese container or a cupcake pan. It might be a spent container of his monkey-butt cream in a wicker basket.
It doesn’t matter. If there’s some crap in something, it’s getting dumped out. But, at least he cleans it up. Let’s hope he treats his room the same way!

DAY 331: What Goes Around…

Cool thing number 1 from today: Jake and I drew our first picture! I was so proud that I brought it home and hung it on the fridge. See the scribbles picture…

Cool thing number 2: If you look just above Jake’s pictures, you’ll see a very colorful magnet. My little sister made that in art class almost 20 years ago! And to the left of that, is a picture of her and I and Wifey at a wedding a few weeks ago. Can you see the semi-related sentimentality here!?

I can hear The Lion King soundtrack, blasting Circle of Life in my head right now!!!

I think I’m going to cry!;)

DAY 330: I Have Boobs, But Not Like Those!!!

I’m in a hurry…. Thirteen hour work day on 4 hrs sleep…. Jake’s cutting a toofer….All I can say is….

THANK GOD HE’S GOT AN AWESOME MAMA! She has the patience of a Saint, and the boobs of a magic milk-making fairy. Her and those magic mam’s are the only thing that calms this little maniac down on days like today! If you broke it down by hours and heart invested, MOM should be the highest paying job on the Planet! THANKS to ALL you hard-working MOMS!
I promise I will make a mess while being a complete crank… It’s not me, it’s my toofer’s….

DAY 329: This Kid’s Not Gonna Outrun Me!

Today was Daddy’s first day back in training! Coming off a recent ankle injury, the only real exercise I’ve gotten in months is some cycling to get my leg strength back.

I finally got back on the treadmill today for a 30 minute run/walk. That was the method I used to train for 5k’s and get down to my “wedding weight”. Three years, 3,000 beers and what feels like just as many pounds later, it’s time to get moving again.
I felt clunky and awkward, like a pregnant dog for the first few increments. Although within minutes, things started to align and move just like old times. Granted, I almost puked at only 6.5 mph, but everything starts with just one step.

And I want to be ready when Jake takes his.

The real me…

DAY 328: Call Today Bipolar. Half Happy & Half Sad

The sad news: I had to tell the band I couldn’t play anymore. Mama and I have very unusual work schedules. Throw in Jakey boy and you have a gig booking nightmare! Who wants to keep their buddies from making extra cash!? I did the right thing and stepped aside. Wahhh.

The happy news: Mama and I had our first date night we’ve had in a very long time. It was a very elegant evening. First, a very special viewing of Paranormal Activity 3 (my second in two days). Second, 60 cent boneless wings, the Hawk’s game, and beers at Buffalo Wild Wings! 3.5 hours of bliss!

I didn’t lure this woman into marriage based on sense of humor alone! I’m a class act!

DAY 327: "DA-DA" Comes in Second Place

Well, Mama wasn’t just patronizing me by saying Jake belted out a “Da-Da” yesterday. He proved himself this morning. Mama J asked him, “Who is that?”, while pointing to me. Jake immediately fired back with “DA-duh”! No questions. He said it. What a smart boy!

Priorities have definitely changed in the last couple of years. Life is evolving. I may not buy the fanciest clothes anymore. I don’t wash the car 3 times a week. Going to the gym hasn’t been my second job like it used to be. And, I may not hit too many clubs or concerts.

I’m getting a little older, and a little wiser. So, I look back at those days with a warm, fuzzy fondness. Yet two syllables from that kid reminded me of all the unbelievable experiences that lie ahead. The best is yet to come. Thanks little man:)
