DAY 234: My First Song Ever Written!

I had a tune stuck in my head today and couldn’t shake it! Words started pouring out, and 37 minutes later, I had this written down. I know it’s basically a poem, but I hear a country song! Someone call Brad Paisley!!!

BECOMING A MAN

I used to be at the head of the pack
And now my brain has me holding back
I’m older now and not so invincible
And now my brain’s not so easily convincible
I used to stand in fire and jump out of planes
And now being afraid makes me think I’m insane
See when I was younger it was only me
And now I’ve got some responsibility
A wife and a son, and a pile of bills
And a life filled with all different kinds of thrills
Life was chasing girls and drinking beer
And Cancun Mexico once a year
Now it’s college funds and Disneyland
And saying goodbye to the boys in the band
Life used to be one big party
But I’m beginning to see that life’s just starting
I wouldn’t trade a thing for the life that I had
Now I wanna be a great husband, and the world’s greatest dad
There is no book that tells me just how to do it
I try to love as much as possible, and I know I’ll get through it
I know these fears will never go away
It’s just how I handle them day by day
(Possible Choruses)
From the first time that boy rides his bike
Until I catch him stealing my car at night
I’m finally starting to understand
This it what it feels like becoming a man
From all night band practice to early morning baseball practice
From two day hangovers to Sponge Bob and Red Rover
I’m finally starting to understand
This it what it feels like becoming a man
From dollar bottles to baby bottles
From fancy SUV’s to fuel economy
From playing in a band to burping my little man
I’m finally starting to understand
This it what it feels like becoming a man

  2. Now that's a beautiful song. I am so glad that Jake and your wife have turned your life around. Now you seem to know what life is really about.
